PRACTISE HEALTHY EATING
IN THE TIMES OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC
During the COVID-19 pandemic, eating a balanced diet is important. Our body's ability to resist, combat, and recover from infections is influenced by what we eat and drink.
With RSRTC’s initivative of ‘Roadways Corona Jan Anushasan Jagrukta Abhiyan’ we are trying to make people aware about the corona virus, safety measures and practices to be taken and also about food intake to keep healthy because good food affects the health in times like these and keeps us fit both mentally and physically.
While no foods or dietary supplements can prevent or cure COVID-19 infection, healthy diets are important for supporting immune systems. Good nutrition can also reduce the likelihood of developing other health problems, including obesity, heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer.
Let’s keep ourselves healthy at home with these tips
·
Eat a diverse diet, including fruits
and vegetables-
Every day, eat a variety of whole grains such as wheat, corn, and rice,
legumes such as lentils and beans, as well as plenty of fresh fruit and
vegetables, as well as some animal-based foods (e.g. meat, fish, eggs and
milk). They're high in fibre and can make you stay full for longer.
·
Cut back on salt-
Limit salt intake to 5 grams (equivalent to a teaspoon) a day.
Check the labels on food and choose products with lower sodium content.
·
Stay
hydrated: Drink enough water-
Hydration is important for good health. Water is the healthiest and
cheapest drink when it is available and safe to drink. Drinking water instead
of sugar-sweetened drinks is an easy way to reduce the sugar and calorie
intake.
·
Avoid
hazardous and harmful alcohol use-
Alcohol is not recommended as part of a balanced diet. Alcohol
consumption does not guard against COVID-19 and can be harmful. Frequent or
chronic alcohol intake raises the risk of injuries in the short term while also
having long-term consequences such as liver damage, cancer, heart disease, and
mental illness.
So, when consuming food make sure you eat a balanced diet and practice
good hygiene when handling food to prevent any food-borne illnesses by
following these 5 keys to safer food-
·
Keep
clean
- Separate raw and cooked
- Cook thoroughly
- Keep food at safe temperatures
- Use safe water and raw materials.
With RSRTC initiative of
‘Roadways Corona Jan Anushasan Jagrukta
Abhiyan’ we are trying to spread as much
as awareness and information as possible to reach to the public so that
everyone stay safe and well aware of the virus. These measures and practices
are to keep the well- being of each one
of us and to avoid or lessen the risk of the corona virus. We hope the world
heals soon and we get back to a happy and healthy state at the earliest.
